How to get to Park Güell, Barcelona

Park Güell in Barcelona is located in the Gràcia and Horta-Guinardó districts. Its exact address is Gràcia, 08024 Barcelona, Spain. You can get to the park by bus or metro; however, you may have to walk uphill. 

You can get to Park Güell via bus 24, which departs from Pl. Catalunya. It takes about 30 minutes from the plaza to arrive at Park Güell. The bus stops at Carretera del Carmel-Park Güell, across from the park’s main entrance. 

You can reach Park Güell via the green line (L3) and stop at Vallcarca. However, it is about a 15-minute walk from the entrance and up a steep hill. There are some escalators on Baixada de la Gloria, which should make the walk easier. You can also get off the metro at Lesseps, which takes you straight to the main entrance. Although the walk is slightly longer, it is a flatter climb. 

If you take a taxi to Park Güell, ask to be dropped off at the Carretera del Carmel entrance, or you may be dropped off a couple blocks away. 

Best time to visit Park Güell, Barcelona

The best time to visit Park Güell is first thing in the morning when the park is open to the public. Park Güell’s hours start at 9:30 in the morning and close at 6:30 pm. 

Try to reserve a ticket as soon as the park opens so you can beat the crowds as early as possible. You’ll be able to enjoy the park better and take plenty of pictures without fellow visitors vying for your spot. Many photoshoots take place at Park Güell, so it’s best to go early to avoid the influencers! 

You can visit the park right before sunset, but this is not recommended for first-time visitors. Although it is beautiful to see the city illuminated in the setting sun, it is better to experience Park Güell in the daylight. You will miss out on the color and intricate details if you arrive at the end of the day.

Park Güell’s hours between 12 and 4 pm are the most crowded time slot, so do your best to avoid this time as much as possible. It will be crowded with last-minute ticket buyers, tour groups, and school groups. 

Tips for visiting Park Güell, Barcelona

Wear walking shoes

Wear your most comfortable walking shoes! Park Güell is not the place for your four-inch heels. Since the park is 42 acres, you will do a lot of walking around Park Güell, especially if you plan to cover every area. 

Stay hydrated

It can get very hot within the park, especially during the summertime. You can bring in a water bottle to stay hydrated, along with outside food. If you forget water, you may get lucky and find a vendor selling water for a euro at the park’s entrances. 

There is a café inside in the park, but it is known to be expensive. You can bring your own food into Park Güell and enjoy a picnic at the picnic areas. There are also a few delicious restaurants near the park, so remember to make a reservation ahead of time.

Park Güell allows only 1,400 tickets to be sold per hour, so be sure to buy your tickets well in advance of your trip. There is also a one euro surcharge at the ticket window if you do not buy your ticket in advance. Children under six can get in for free, and those aged 7-12 get a discounted ticket.
