Weather and when to go

Welcome to Miami, sunshiney Americana with a hearty dose of Cuban charm. The spring has cheaper hotel rates and less crowds, but the summer vibes mean more fun in the sun and some epic partying. The best time to visit Miami Beach is between March and May, when daytime temperatures mostly stay in the high 70s and low 80s. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, so pack an umbrella and prepare for things to get stormy.

Art Deco

You can’t miss the colorful Art Deco Historic District in Miami Beach. Walk around along Ocean Drive, Collins Ave and Washington Ave and you’ll see the porthole windows, curved metal railings and the Celino South Beach hotel, once a buzzing hotspot for the Hollywood ‘it’ crowd. For views of the whole skyline head to Lummus Park, and don’t miss a glimpse of Villa Casa Casuarina, the Spanish-style 1930s mansion where Gianni Versace lived and died.

Get down to South Beach

South Beach, also known as ‘SoBe’ and an ‘Art Deco Playground’ is the place to see and be seen in Miami. Lounge on the fine white sands, shop till you drop in luxury boutiques, dine on gourmet cuisine and take a stroll down Ocean Drive, which you’ll no doubt recognize from movies and TV, including Scarface’s infamous chainsaw scene. Lincoln Road is the place for people-watching and fancy cocktails. At night, it’s one big party!

Spot the alligators on an airboat tour

Cruise the Everglades, one of South Florida's top attractions, as you scope for rare and endangered species, such as the American crocodile, manatees and the elusive Florida panther. Take a breezy 30-minute airboat ride through the wild heart of Southern Florida, and see exotic animals in three exhibition areas at Sawgrass Recreation Park. If you’re brave enough you can even hold a baby crocodile. Snap it before it snaps you.

Get smart with the The Sightseeing Flex Pass - Miami

There’s so much to do in Miami, you might leave with some brand new vices, but tick the best stuff off your list with the Sightseeing Flex Pass. This handy pass gets you on the hop-on hop-off buses with over 40 stops around Miami. It’s factual, fun, and shaded from the sun. Life’s a beach in Miami

For a more relaxing Miami vibe than South Beach, head to the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, or kick it in your birthday suit at the clothing-optional Haulover Beach. You’ll find child-friendly facilities at South Pointe Park Beach, and a special gay-friendly section at South Beach's 12th Street Beach – look for the two rainbow flags. For canoeing, kayaking and cycling trails, Oleta River State Park Beach makes for a great family day out.

Feed the animals at Zoo Miami

Zoo Miami is Florida's biggest zoo and a committed conservation partner. Many of its 3,000 animals roam wild, while others thrive in simulated ecosystems filled with trees, plants and flowers. Voted one of the Top 10 Zoos in the country, Miami Zoo is also the only subtropical zoo in the US. Feed giraffes and parrots, ride the camels, and let the kids comb goats at the Critter Collection. Don't forget to bring your swimsuits for the Playworld Playground.
