We went on a cold war tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was informative and interesting all at once and our guide Gregor included some personal stories and points of view from his and his family’s experience living in east Berlin. We would highly recommend this tour.

An exceptional look at the history of the wall. The Panorama was epic and it made me like I do understand Berliners' feeling from that time a bit more.

About: Berlin Wall Memorial

Welcome to the Berlin Wall Memorial, a poignant and historically significant site that stands as a reminder of Germany's division and the struggle for freedom. Located along Bernauer Strasse, the Berlin Wall Memorial offers a profound glimpse into the hardships endured during the Cold War era. As you explore the memorial, you'll encounter preserved segments of the Berlin Wall, watchtowers, and remnants of the border fortifications. These stark reminders serve as a testament to the courage and resilience of those affected by the division. The memorial features an exhibition center, where you can learn about the history of the Berlin Wall, the stories of escape attempts, and the impact it had on people's lives. Take a moment to reflect at the Memorial Chapel, dedicated to the victims of the division. The Berlin Wall Memorial provides a solemn space for remembrance, education, and contemplation, inviting visitors to understand the importance of unity, freedom, and the pursuit of peace.

The popular Pergamon Museum in Berlin is a great solution to a first world problem; it was built because there wasn't enough room in the nearby Bode Museum for all its artistic and archaeological relics. Construction carried on even through WWI and the great inflation of the 1920s. The then completed Pergamon was also badly damaged at the end of WWII (though fortunately its contents escaped damage). NOTE: The Pergamon Museum will be closed until 2027.
