About: Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano

St. John Lateran, the Pope’s cathedral, is the oldest basilica in Christendom, built in the 300s and restored in the 1700s.

It’s home to the Holy Door, opened by the Pope once every 25 years. Nearby are the Sacred Steps, believed to be the steps Jesus walked during the Passion and brought here from Jerusalem.
