Jewish Cultural Quarter

The Jewish Cultural Quarter includes the Jewish Historical Museum, the educational Children's Museum (designed like a traditional Jewish home), the Portuguese Synagogue (built in 1675) and the Hollandsche Schouwburg (National Holocaust Memorial).

The Jewish Historical Museum itself is housed in four monumental synagogues near Waterlooplein, making it a great place to start on a family day out in central Amsterdam.

Many interesting things to see, all easily done with what is basically one ticket. Lots of information is provided, and there is good guidance. I was pleased to discover an artist who had been unknown to me (Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita) and to see the small collection of works by Charlotte Salomon. The coverage of the Holocaust is comprehensive and is sensitively done.
The staff are welcoming and the ambience is agreeable.
