Weather

The weather in Los Angeles is mostly sun, sun, sun, which is why almost four million people live there. Unless they moved there to make it in the movies? Either way, expect year-round heat. Bear in mind that the Los Angeles area contains microclimates, meaning the daytime temperatures can vary as much as 36 °F (20 °C) between inland areas. The L.A. metropolitan area is mostly dry, but expect summer months to be sizzling!

Nightlife

Want to mingle with the A-listers? For that you’ll need to dress to impress and head to Avalon, Drai’s or Boulevard3 in Hollywood, or glam up even more for Chateau Marmont's Bar Marmont in West Hollywood. Of course, you could find those celebs eating and generally being normal in any bar or restaurant. L.A. has a host of clubs and bars for everyone, but for a family affair head to Universal CityWalk®, next to to Universal Studios Hollywood.

Hollywood history

Did you know that Hollywood was established in 1853 and was actually a thriving agricultural community? These days the farming tools have been replaced by sidewalk stars and neon lights, and has been producing movies and television shows since the early 1900s. You can learn a lot more about it with a Hollywood Explorer Pass. See Madame Tussauds, visit movie locations, walk the Walk of Fame and more!

Universal Studios

Point your broomsticks towards Hogwarts and shop in the ‘real’ Hogsmeade at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter™. Fight to survive a world overrun by hungry walkers in the The Walking Dead, or simply scream the day away on a series of movie-themed rides and rollercoasters, all at Universal Studios. Want to go deeper into the world of movies? The Universal Studios® Hollywood VIP Experience offers unlimited express ride access, reserved seats and more.

Cruise from Newport Beach

Once you’re done spotting movie stars (or not, as the case may be!) take a load off on a relaxing cruise from Newport Beach - the largest recreational boat harbor on the U.S. West Coast. There are different cruises to choose from, all managed by Hornblower, who promise top family fun and full-service, plus amazing L.A. views from the water! Board a luxurious yacht for a sunset cocktail cruise, a dinner cruise, or a brunch cruise that fizzes with both fun and champagne.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

You know you’ve made it when your own star is ready to be walked all over on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! With over 2,600 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars glittering up from the sidewalks, this infamous strip is a must-see in L.A. Spot your favorite actors, musicians, directors and more as you stroll along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street - and keep your dreams alive like these people did. Maybe one day you’ll get your own star?

Griffith Park

Done with the rides and tourist traps? Take a trip back to nature and hide away in solitude in the sprawling Griffith Park. There’s over 4,000 acres of wild oak trees, landscaped parkland and picnic areas, plus heaps of awesome hiking opportunities in one of the largest urban wilderness areas in the United States. Go horse riding, visit the L.A. Zoo, play a round of golf, catch a show at the Greek Theater, or take a walk for an excellent view of the Hollywood Sign. Now that's a park!
