Spanish Riding School

The world-famous Spanish Riding School is the training ground for riders and their Lipizzan horses - Europe's oldest breed of horse. It's located between Michaelerplatz and Josefsplatz inside the Hofburg, in central Vienna. The 'Spanish' in the title refers to the Spanish heritage of the horses.

This beautiful building has been an equestrian training center for more than 450 years. Guests can enter and watch these amazing horses learn the ropes and reins, in preparation for their performances in the Winter Riding School (Winterreitschule) in the Hofburg.

Spanish Riding School: Morning Training
It is good to have the tickets as it is a very popular attraction. You still need to get there early as you need to have them verified and turnstile tickets issued before joining the queue. Also, the closer to the front of the queue you are, the better seats you can find and you will have a better view of the horses and riders.

Spanish Riding School: Morning Training
Beautiful training area, beautiful horses but be aware they are only training basic movements, do not expect to see any of the wonderful things they perform in one of their actual shows.

Highly recommend, Get there early so you get seats (although they are not comfortable) We were lucky enough to see them perform some of the 'above ground' movements - The ones where they jump and kick ;)
