Spanish Riding School

The world-famous Spanish Riding School is the training ground for riders and their Lipizzan horses - Europe's oldest breed of horse. It's located between Michaelerplatz and Josefsplatz inside the Hofburg, in central Vienna. The 'Spanish' in the title refers to the Spanish heritage of the horses.

This beautiful building has been an equestrian training center for more than 450 years. Guests can enter and watch these amazing horses learn the ropes and reins, in preparation for their performances in the Winter Riding School (Winterreitschule) in the Hofburg.

Very interesting. Queue about half an hour before entry starts so you can get a good viewing spot. The horses are put through a training session as you watch.

Spanish Riding School: Morning Training
nice venue but the Australian Outback Spectacular is a better horse show. If I'm gonna pay I wanna see someone standing with a foot each on two galloping horses cracking a bullwhip

Spanish Riding School: Morning Training
Well worth the waiting. The horses were beautifully turned out & the riders all appeared to have a good rapport with their animals. It was interesting to see them learning new steps.
