Exhibitions
Delacroix (1798–1863)
Now on - Jul 23, 2018

The Louvre pays tribute to master artist Eugene Delacroix in the first Parisian retrospective of his work since 1963. Tracing his career from his early salon scenes to his giant religious landscapes, Delacroix (1798–1863) studies the man behind the paintings, revealing an artist as infatuated with fame as he was utterly dedicated to his craft.

Description

A Grand Old Dame of art museums, the Louvre's collection ranges from Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Greek antiquities to masterpieces by artists such as da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Rembrandt. With 35,000 artworks it's a big and worthwhile commitment. NOTE: This ticket gets you skip the line access, but you must show your mobile voucher at a nearby newspaper stand ('kiosk') to receive an official paper ticket.

The Louvre is of the world’s largest and most authoritative museums. Its magnificent Classical silhouette is a familiar sight in the center of Paris. The collection focuses on two important eras in art history; Art and Craftwork from ancient civilizations (especially those that laid the foundation for Western art) and Western European Art from the Middle Ages to 1848 or so (later art can be found at the Musée d’Orsay).

This famous museum began as a palace, bearing the personal art collections of French kings. Art first went on display here under the initiative of the royal academy in 1725 but it wasn't until 1793 - during the French Revolution - that it opened as a public art gallery (not a coincidence).

Before too long the museum's already impressive collection was being bolstered by the spoils of Napoleon’s excursions around Europe. He transformed the Louvre's art collection into the biggest in the world - though some of that ill-gotten booty has been returned, some of it remains to this day.

APP & AUDIO ASSISTANCE

The scale of this museum can be overwhelming - the south side facing the Seine is 700m long. But downloading self-guided tours from the website, or picking up a €5 multimedia guide, will help you navigate this huge labyrinth of artistic treasures.

It’s good for the part of skipping the line. Yet I think the ticket collect point should be more visible. I found it hard to notice the logo sign

Very easy to pick up printed tickets although some others in our group didn’t check the closing time of the kiosk and were too late !

Couldn’t find the anonymous little newsstand where the ticket were to be picked up. By the time we found it, it had closed and we were unable to get our tickets. Had to rebuy at the door.

A good service...once we found the booth. Walked around and around and around. Perhaps a written description, as well as a map, would be helpful. But thanks—so nice
to miss that lineup!
