Animal feedings (available on site for an extra cost)
  • Pygmy hippos, porcupines, and penguins – they're all here, and that's only a fraction of the animals
  • Admire a huge array of avian species, including emus, rare curassows, and colorful Temminck's tragopan
  • Monkey around with tamarins, lemurs, marmosets, chimps and even more simian species

The Lagos Zoo started with a passion for animals, and in the last 20 years it has grown to a haven of conservation. There are 48 enclosures to find throughout your visit, covering everything from warm-blooded to cold, and from sky to sea.

If you're an animal lover, there's enough to keep you fascinated for the whole day, from chimpan-A to chimpan-Z. You can even bring lunch and a swimming suit along – the zoo has its own picnic area and swimming pool.

Good
Really good day out with the children, perfect for small children who get fussy quickly as it’s a small zoo so you won’t be there too long

Excellent
After buying tickets then reading the reviews I was dubious. But 4 adults spent 3 hours there. I thought was a nice little zoo, animals seemed well kept and happy enough, and human friendly

A really nice place to visit when you are in the Algarve region of Portugal. This zoo does not have big and ferocious animals (lions, tigers, leopards, cheetahs) or big animals (bears, elephants) but the animals here co-exist peacefully with other species like one big family and it is a heartwarming sight.
If you are visiting, one tip is to bring along a small bag to contain animal feeds from the vending machines located at different parts of the zoo, so that you and your kids can feed the free roaming ducks or chicken.
The cost of feed is One Euro so do bring along your coins. Alternatively, go exchange your notes for coins at the stalls selling food (cares) if you run out of coins.
