About: Basilica San Marco Evangelista, Rome

Not to be confused with St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, the Basilica San Marco Evangelista in Rome is an architectural treasure standing tall since the 4th century. It is believed to be where St. Mark the Evangelist himself resided during his Roman sojourn in 41 AD. This humble abode later morphed into a sacred oratory.

An extraordinary transformation occurred between 337 and 340 AD when Pope Mark, under the golden hues of a Roman sunset, converted the oratory into the magnificent Basilica it is today. This historic feat was possible thanks to the generous gifts received from Emperor Constantine, right after the persecutions against Christians had ceased.
