Casa Batllo

Gaudí’s masterpiece Casa Batlló, located in the heart of Barcelona, was built in 1877. In 1904 the wealthy Batlló family asked Gaudí to build another in its place. Instead, he decided to renovate the building, and did so in his own inimitable style. With a wavy animalistic facade and brilliant colors, and thought-provoking whimsical features everywhere (check out the roof terrace), this is a Gaudí wonder.

Casa Batlló: Skip The Line + Video Guide
It was nice place and worth to visit with the skip the line ticket. However it was quite stuffy inside the building, the ventilation there should be improved.

Casa Batlló: Skip The Line + Video Guide
One of the best examples of Modernist architecture. The idea is that, once you've walked in, you're in the deep blue sea and every detail of this house recalls an underwater world.

Casa Batlló: Skip The Line + Video Guide
Not massively impressive from the inside - I think better appreciated from outside looking up at dusk when the colours on the roof really come out and the windows are lit up. Essential to hear the video guide though.

Casa Batlló: Skip The Line + Video Guide
This is the most uplifting experience of being in a truly beautiful and unique house, with building resolution strategies that were way beyond his time (i.e. light wells with graduating colours to maximise light capture, ventilation designs for each room and ergonomically designed balustrades that were pleasurable to hold and purpose built for the hand grip). Each material has been selected, considered, designed for purpose. Gaudi not only had a brilliant creative mind, but he was also a superb engineer (see the catenary arches in the attic of Casa Batlo). One just feels happy being in proximity to interior of this wonderful building.
