Take a 2.5-hour guided tour of the most important cultural institution in the Czech Republic. The expansive Prague Castle was once the heart of the Holy Roman Empire, and is now home to the Czech president and crown jewels.
Your journey begins at the Charles Bridge, where your guide will give you a short overview of the history of the enormous castle looming over the city.
Then you'll cross the famous bridge, head to Lesser Town Square, and hop on a tram to Prague Castle. With an area of almost 70,000 m², the Guinness Book of World Records calls Prague Castle the largest coherent castle complex in the world.
When you enter St. Vitus Cathedral, you'll hear stories about princes, kings, and emperors, as well as the ceremonial history of the site and its remarkable stained glass windows. Your tour will also include the Old Royal Palace, Vladislav Hall, and St. George's Basilica – the oldest church on-site.
Another highlight is the area known as Golden Lane, where you'll gain insight into the residents and activities of this storied area.
Prague Castle has undergone various rebuilds, renovations, fires, and was also the site of the Second Prague Defenestration – an act that led to the Bohemian Revolt. It's chock-full of history, quirks and stories, and your guide will shed light on its history and significance.
Don't finish your tour yet! Walk for an extra 11 minutes to Vinarna Certovka, the narrowest street in Prague! It is nested in Prague's oldest neighbourhood, Mala Strana, and has a traffic light of its own so people don't collide as they walk down the 19.6in-wide gap! And finally you can relax at the cutest restaurant at the end of the steps, Vinarna.
Show your smartphone ticket to our tour guide in front of the statue of Charles IV on Křižovnické náměstí at 13:15. The guide will be holding an open blue and white umbrella.
