You'll find jade carvings dating back to a time before dynasties, bronze bells from the ninth century BC, and scrolls stretching out more than six meters at the National Palace Museum.
Their huge collection boasts some of the most important works to be produced in China, including paintings by Huang Gongwang, the Mao Gong ding and one of the museum's most important objects – the intricately carved jadeite cabbage.
There are over 3,000 works of calligraphy, and the museum houses the Qing Dynasty's Siku Quanshu, the largest collection of books in Chinese history. If ceramics are more your cup of tea, you'll find sculptures and vases every which way.
- To visit the Northern Branch, scan your smartphone voucher directly at the turnstiles and just walk in
- To visit the Southern Branch, you need to swap your smartphone voucher for a paper ticket at the ticket counter
- Visitors aged 0-17, disabled people and their companion can collect a free ticket at the ticket counter with a valid proof of eligibility
- Once you have visited either the Northern or Southern Branch of The National Palace Museum, your smartphone voucher allows you to visit the other branch within 90 days. However, to visit the Southern Branch in Chiayi, the voucher is only valid until the end of the year
- Photo and video allowed, except for some cases, in which signs are in place. No flash, no tripods, no selfie sticks. Prior permission required for commercial purposes
- Free guided tours are offered in English and Mandarin Chinese several times a day. Please sign up at the audio touring system reception desk on the first floor. Tours are limited to 30 persons. Parent-child tours are available on weekends
