Description

If you were chilling in Rome with your friends in 216 A.D, you might have hung out at the Thermae of Caracalla, which was the place to see and be seen! Explore all 25 hectares of Rome's best preserved ancient spa with an optional audio guide and see where Romans once bathed, played sports and socialized.

People would bathe, play sports, study and relax here at what was the finest bath in ancient Rome, constructed during the reign of Emperor Caracalla.

With an optional audio guide, you can explore all 25 hectares of what's now the best-preserved ancient bathing spot in the city. Imagine the colored marble, painted stuccos, mosaics, glass and statues that once made the Baths of Caracalla (Terme di Caracalla in Italian) look completely different.

Insider tip

You can continue the time-traveling adventure by watching a short 3D film at the meeting point after the tour. Showing what the Colosseum, Underground Rome, Pantheon, and the Circus Maximus looked like during their heyday, the film will give a real sense of the living, breathing history that is contained within these remarkable remnants of the ancient world.

The baths were excellent although it would be much better with a guide to help understand the history and to interpret the ruins. The VR experience was good when it worked but it was a bit temperamental and also quite heavy on a hot day. The remaining mosaics are spectacular and the sheer size of the facility is amazing. I would recommend the baths and the booking experience was quite easy too
