Explore 1,400 meters of tunnels carved by molten rock 5,200 years ago. With transport from Reykjavik included, it's a perfectly Icelandic adventure!

Take a luxury coach just 30 minutes outside of Reykjavik and discover Raufarhólshellir - one of the world's most incredible natural phenomena. This giant lava tube was carved by torrents of white-hot magma in the Leitahraun eruption.

This was genuinely a unique and cool experience to try out. We did the shorter tour that’s about an hour long, because we weren’t sure how hard the 3 hour tour would be. In retrospect, the caves are so well-organised with equipment that we could’ve done the longer one. You’re given crampons, stick, hats etc and large parts of the path are well lit and have ladders etc. Our guide Luke was very informative and one of the coolest bits was near the end where they cut all the power / lights out to show what the cave looks like in pure darkness. Given we visited in winter, there was some snow/ice, especially ice stalactites and stalagmites which was super cool to see.

Amazing! I don't know where to begin with this trip! Easy pick up from the BSI bus terminal. Once at the lava tunnel all safety precautions are explained. The moment everyone stepped into the tunnel, all you could hear were gasps of astonishment. Such an amazing experience and I would do it again! The tour guide Irma (won't be correct spelling) was very funny and kindly took photos of everyone.
