Spread across two galleries, Georgette Chen: At Home in the World is the first museum retrospective of the artist in more than 20 years.

Born in 1906, the artist grew up in a world of strife, from the Chinese Revolutions of 1911 to World War I, then again in adulthood with further revolution in China in 1949 and World War II. Throughout, though, she dedicated herself to art. Her studies found her in Paris and New York, and her work went on to be exhibited in Shanghai, Paris, New York, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

In 1953, Chen found herself in Malaya and later Singapore, and this period is the focus of the first gallery. Seeing the region as an artistic paradise, her most emblematic work depicted the beauty of the region. The second gallery focuses on her formal training and early work as she became internationally recognised.
