The Museum of Antioquia is symbolic of a revitalized Medellín. The city is no stranger to economic and political turmoil, but the now renowned art museum, renovated in 1997, is a signal of Colombia's prosperity and progression, of which the people of Medellín are extremely proud.

It's home to a stunning collection, detailing the Pre-Columbian era, colonial period and beyond, with much of the art donated by the world-famous Fernando Botero.

The fact that you're here suggests you might already have a passing interest in Botero's special, rotund style, but if not, a quick Google search of his name will give you an idea of why his pieces are so enjoyed.

Boterismo depicts subjects (people, animals, historical figures) in amusing, exaggerated volume, often brushed with political messages and social critique. He even had his unique way with the Mona Lisa – not to be missed.

Fernando is certainly the star of the show, but across 17 rooms you'll find a vast array of work included in the permanent collection, including photographs, paintings, drawings, cartoons and sculptures by Colombian and international creators, all reflecting the country's eventful history.

Excelente. Me habría gustado poder tomar fotografías de la obra de Botero (3a planta) sin embargo, aún así disfrute la visita. Hermoso recinto.
