This picturesque monastery has history dating all the way back to the 13th century, and has seen centuries of political and cultural shifts take place. Destroyed at the end of the 14th century during the Ottoman conquest of Sofia, it was abandoned for more than 200 years before being rebuilt during the 1600s.
It's located in a dense oak forest, surrounded by springs with cold mountain water, making it a tranquil and peaceful escape from the stresses of modern life. Wander the grounds and admire the religious architecture, well-preserved frescoes, and murals of Bulgarian saints and historical figures.
Today, the monastery houses two nuns, and remains a site for religious contemplation and pilgrimage as well as a popular attraction for visitors.
