Japan's modernization and industrialization in the late 19th century spawned more traditional art forms, one of which was ukiyo-e. Printed scenes of Japanese life were populated by courtesans, samurais, geishas and actors from the Japanese kabuki theatre, and ukiyo-e was rekindled in the early 20th century through shin hanga. Browse the work of one of the great masters of shin hanga, Itō Shinsui (1898-1972) - a unique artistic Japanese encounter.
