Finding things to do in Kyoto is never hard, with the city's beautiful temples, tranquil gardens, and incredible food scene. But if Japanese art takes your fancy as much as cherry blossoms do, take a wander through the MoMAK and let your spirit bloom!

Marvel at an evocative collection of paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, textiles, metalworks, wood and bamboo works, lacquers, jewelry, and photography from Kyoto's modern art scene and beyond.

The immense permanent collection of the MoMAK is too large to be exhibited at the same time, but that's actually a good thing. It means no two visits to the museum are ever the same, as smaller curated exhibitions rotate throughout the year, making each visit unique.

Instead of trying to take in thousands of works all at once, the MoMAK encourages a more intimate encounter with a selection of works built around specific themes designed to move, inspire, and provoke thought.

At any given time, you can encounter exhibitions focused on Japanese glasswork, fashion, flowers, scenery, watercolor, abstract art, among many others. Artists represented in the museum include Murakami Kagaku, Koide Narashige, Yasui Sotaro and Murayama Tomoyoshi.

There's also some amazing Western art here too, with paintings by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Kurt Schwitters and Piet Mondrian.

Afterwards, let the masterpieces sink in as you sit on the peaceful waterside café terrace.
