The Australian Sports Museum is exceptionally well arranged, showcasing a wide range of authentic clothing, medals, and sporting equipment. What stood out most during my visit was the Shane Warne Exhibition. In the cricket section, visitors can listen to a 3D projected Shane Warne speaking about his career, which is a truly memorable experience.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Museum, located within the cricket section, is somewhat tucked away, but it is a real gem, filled with fascinating artefacts and stories. Overall, it was a great and memorable experience!

What a great thing to do in Melbourne. Peter, our guide was so knowledgable. He took us through the public and player only areas, into the member only areas and explained all memorabilia we came across, along the way. So good to have a better understanding of such an Australian icon and be able to visualise all the different areas, next time we watch a match played there. Well, well worth the visit. To finish off we went through the sports museum, which was so comprehensive and really gave a great idea of Australia as a sporting nation.

Melbourne Cricket Ground – Informationen & Hinweise

Lord's, Wembley, Old Trafford, Eden Gardens und das Yankee-Stadion zählen zu den größten Sportarenen der Welt, aber wenn es um Geschichte, Dramatik und Emotionen geht, kommt man am Melbourne Cricket Ground kaum vorbei. Der Platz wurde 1853 erbaut, als der damals 15 Jahre alte Melbourne Cricket Club von der Regierung gezwungen wurde, von seinem früheren Standort umzuziehen, weil die Strecke der ersten australischen Dampfeisenbahn durch das Oval führen sollte.

Seitdem war das MCG Schauplatz zahlreicher internationaler Kricketspiele, darunter das allererste Testspiel und das Finale der Fußballweltmeisterschaft 1992, zahlreiche VFL/AFL Grand Finals und die Olympischen Spiele 1956.

Weitere Sportereignisse, die hier ausgetragen werden, sind die Qualifikationsspiele für die australische Fußballweltmeisterschaft, die Heim- und Auswärtsspiele der Rugby-Liga und das "State of Origin", internationale Rugby-Union-Begegnungen und die Commonwealth Games 2006.
