I enjoyed this but as with other locations they demand passports to get the audio guide, which have to be left at the kiosk which I would be uneasy doing to be honest. Fortunately I encountered a sensible lady on the desk, and as I had no passport with me she accepted a €20 note as security. This was unique in my experience. I had recently read a book called ‘The Blood Star’ by Nicholas Guild in which the main characters end up at Naxos after many adventures. This was a key reason for me wanting to visit the site. To be frank, it is not very well laid out, the guide map is rudimentary to say the least and the remains are not well marked. Sometimes there is a number to indicate where one is on the map and that corresponds to the audio guide number, but I have found at this and other sites that these can be difficult to locate or missing. In the UK you would usually have a label indicating what one is looking at, that does not seem to hold in Italy. This meant we were often scratching our heads at what we were looking at. Would definitely go again but likely would not bother with the audio guide. I think if you are visiting you need to read up prior to departure to get the most from this site.

Ontdek waar de oude Grieken voor het eerst voet aan wal zetten op Sicilië, terwijl je door ruïnes loopt die bijna 3000 jaar oud zijn. Bekijk de muren van Naxos in het archeologische gebied en ontdek ornamenten en relikwieën van vóór de ondergang van Naxos in de 5e eeuw voor Christus in het Archeologisch Museum van Naxos.
Het oude theater van Taormina is een Grieks-Romeins amfitheater uit de Oudheid en ligt in de gelijknamige Siciliaanse stad. Het werd rond de derde eeuw voor Christus gebouwd door de oude Grieken, en ongeveer 500 jaar later gerenoveerd door de Romeinen.
Het theater is uitgehouwen in de Siciliaanse heuvels, en is nog altijd in gebruik. Grote artiesten als Bob Dylan, Elton John en Sting gaven acte de présence op het podium, dat een fantastisch uitzicht heeft op de oceaan en het omliggende platteland. Dat is nog eens een concertzaal!
Het Regionaal Naturalistisch Museum van Isolabella is een boetiekmuseum in een architectonisch unieke villa op het prachtige Siciliaanse eiland Isola Bella.
Binnen vind je een scala aan tentoonstellingen die de unieke biosfeer, geologie en het culturele erfgoed van het eiland behouden en tentoonstellen, evenals de architectuur van de villa, die slim is ontworpen om op te gaan in het omliggende landschap.
De Vallei van de Tempels is een archeologisch landschapspark van 1300 hectare in Agrigento, Sicilië. Het is de grootste archeologische locatie ter wereld. Hier vind je een groot aantal Groot-Griekenlandse kunst en architectuur. Vandaag de dag is het een nationaal monument van Italië. De locatie werd in 1997 opgenomen in de UNESCO Werelderfgoedlijst.
