In the oldest part of the Hofburg Imperial Palace you'll find perhaps the greatest treasury in the world. It holds gems, crowns, scepters, orbs, and regalia collected and hoarded by the Habsburg Empire over a period of more than 800 years. The items are visually stunning and historically significant. In fact, the actual Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire rests here. In addition to the worldly mementos of kings, queens, and emperors, there's also an ecclesiastical collection which features relics ascribed to various saints.

The Imperial Carriage Museum, located in Schönbrunn Mews, is a haven for horse-drawn carriage enthusiasts. It has an extensive collection of more than 60 historical state coaches, sledges, and sedan chairs, and more than two hundred years' of harnesses and livery. But even if you don't count carriages as a passion, you'll find the vehicles on display here fasincating. Located in the former Winter Riding School, the highlight of the collection is the richly decorated Imperial Coach used at royal weddings and coronations.
