Meeting point
Avenida Juan Carlos I, 25, 38640, TenerifeThere's more to the Canary Islands than just the captivating four-season climate of its largest island, Tenerife. Join this intrepid tour with a local expert and sail over to La Gomera.
If you've ever gazed out across the Atlantic from Los Gigantes on a clear day, you may have caught a glimpse of La Gomera, one of the seven islands that make up the Canaries. Board a fast ferry for a day trip featuring a strange new language you have to hear to believe!
Watch the dramatic scenery cascade into the sea from Mirador de Vallehermoso (unless it's cloudy, then you'll stop somewhere equally stunning), and continue on to Garajonay National Park, a World Heritage Site since 1981. This mist-covered haven for wildlife boasts rare laurel forests, birds, butterflies, and subtropical plant species.
Next up, lunch in the lovely village of Las Rosas! While you tuck into a delicious spread of soups, bread, traditional Canarian sauces, chicken or fish, fresh veggies and not to forget, wine, the local villagers will treat you to a display of their unique Gomeran whistling language, El Silbo.
Practiced for thousands of years, El Silbo allows locals to use phonetic whistling to communicate messages across the deep ravines and winding valleys of the island. Messages can be carried up to a distance of five kilometers! Try your hand at this UNESCO-protected language.
Passing through the beautiful village of Hermigua, you'll soon be back in San Sebastián, where there's time to explore at your leisure. Check out the La Torre del Conde (The Count's Tower), La Casa de Colón (Christopher Columbus' House), Asunción Church, or just grab a Dorada on a sun-drenched patio before catching the ferry back to Tenerife.
