Visit the Church of Santa Cruz do Castelo, also known as Igreja Paroquial do Castelo, located in Lisbon’s Castelo neighborhood.
This 18th-century church was built on the site of a 12th-century temple that once replaced an old mosque.
Inside, you’ll find an altarpiece dedicated to St. George, the patron saint of Lisbon’s reconquest. The church also holds the Relic of the Holy Cross, kept here for centuries.
Climb the bell tower, rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, to enjoy one of the highest viewpoints in old Lisbon.
From the top, you can see landmarks such as São Vicente de Fora, Alfama, the Graça Church, Senhora do Monte, and the Vasco da Gama Bridge. The climb includes 50 steps.
