L’Aquàrium de Barcelona is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a major update. The space has been completely redesigned to offer a modern and engaging experience focused on marine life, technology, and environmental awareness.
Right from the entrance, visitors walk across the largest interactive digital floor in Europe. New areas include Journey to the Depths, an immersive room where you can explore underwater environments on a virtual ride called the SubAqua Explorer.
The aquarium features over 80 tanks filled with Mediterranean and tropical species. You’ll walk through an 80 m long underwater tunnel, the longest in Europe, where sharks and other marine animals swim all around you. Highlights include unique creatures like sea dragons, and dedicated areas focused on the Mediterranean, such as the Medes Islands and the Ebro Delta, showing the aquarium’s focus on conservation and sustainability.
There are plenty of interactive activities for visitors of all ages. In Aqua Protectors, kids can design a digital fish and watch it swim in a virtual ocean. In the mangrove zone, visitors can play games and explore sensory exhibits. And in SOS Oceans, science and storytelling come together to highlight the importance of protecting our oceans.
Located in Barcelona’s Port Vell, the renewed aquarium is a great place to learn, explore, and enjoy the marine world.
