Visit Alcatraz, the former offshore prison that once held some of America's most infamous inmates, including 'Scarface' Al Capone and 'Birdman' Robert Stroud.

Now managed by the National Park Service, the island is accessible by ferry from San Francisco and is home to the West Coast's oldest operating lighthouse, as well as large colonies of gulls, egrets, and cormorants.
