Nel 1921, il Walter Kerr Theatre house aprì con il suo nome originale, The Ritz. Di proprietà degli Shuberts e progettato da Herbert J. Krapp, doveva essere un teatro gemello dell'Ambassador Theatre.
A partire dal 1939, la CBS e la ABC utilizzarono lo spazio per registrare programmi radiofonici e televisivi. Negli anni '70 fu riconvertito in cinema, ma nel 1983 fu riportato alla legalità. I suoi attuali proprietari, Jujamcyn Theatres, hanno speso milioni per restaurarlo nel 1990 e da allora ha ospitato spettacoli di successo a Broadway.
