  • Visit the basilica’s rooftop terrace and St. Mark’s Museum, and admire the church’s collection of Byzantine art and gold mosaics

Climbing aboard a gondola and floating along Venice's Santa Maria della Salute area is a must for anyone new to the city. Lie back as your gondolier navigates the Grand Canal, and a few minor ones, and takes you toward St. Mark's Basilica.

Connected to the Doge's Palace, you'll find the most famous example of Italo-Byzantine architecture, St. Mark's Basilica. Once you and your guide are inside, you'll understand how it earned its 'church of gold' nickname.

Inside the basilica, your guide will show you the collection of Byzantine art, the famous golden mosaics that cover the floor, and the numerous changes the church has gone through since the original structure was erected in the 11th century.

You'll also be able to get scenic city views from the basilica's terrace, as well as admire the many treasures found within St. Mark's Museum.
