Meeting point

Campo San Gallo, San Marco 1093/B, Venice Tours office, 30124, Venice

  • Watch as a master craftsman shapes molten glass into a unique creation – just as it was done 1,000 years ago
  • The glassblower will explain the technical process that was once a highly guarded Venetian Republic secret
  • Stroll the factory showroom to see the variety of glass products, and receive a little gift as a memento (one per couple or family)

Sitting in an old glass factory right in the center of Venice, you'll watch as a local artisan first takes a molten blob of glass out of the fornax (the old Latin word for oven) with a hollow, metal rod.

He'll then begin to shape it into a unique and custom-made piece of glassware. If he's making a jug, for example, he’ll use the rod to roll it around on the table and fashion the main bulb shape. An elegant handle might be added by means of tongs and a skillful double swoosh of his hand.

It's all quite visceral and, of course, his very breath is an important tool, too (you’ll have to visit to learn why).

As the gentle heat of the furnace wafts about you, you might even fancy yourself drifting back to the 1200s.

  • Show your smartphone ticket to the tour guide at the meeting point where the tour starts
  • The office is close to San Marco Square. Having the Basilica of San Marco behind you, stay on the right side of the square and go under the arches. Find Olivetti Museum, turn right passing under the archways, cross the little bridge and go straight on to “Campo San Gallo”, Venice Tours Office is in the square, San Marco 1093/B
  • The guide will be holding a signboard saying 'GLASS BLOWING TOUR' and will accompany you to the Murano Glass Factory
  • Please arrive at least 5 minutes before departure. The guide won't wait for latecomers
  • Cancellation is possible until 24 hours before your visit date.
  • Rescheduling is possible until 24 hours before your visit date.

Good
The experience is extremely short however it was accompanied by a nice explanation. We had to miss the shop/museum because the experience started late. So we cannot say much about that part

Average
Extremely limited time period. Demonstration was closer to 15 mins. Tour was more about selling you the item post demonstration which is awkward.
