Like to binge-watch shows about epic battles and ruthless kings playing musical chairs with their thrones? Experience the real thing with a whirlwind tour of Ireland's Ancient East, and get spirited around the misty, history-laden landscape of the Boyne Valley with a friendly Irish guide. Enchanting storytelling will bring the region's lore to life as you go.
Leave the Dublin bustle blowing in the breeze and discover Ireland's primeval past in the windswept hills of the Boyne Valley. Along the way, you'll visit the Hill of Uisneach, a mystical peak where high kings and druids gathered to light a giant bonfire that set off a chain of flaming beacons across the country.
Explore the age-old Loughcrew, a cluster of megalithic tombs that date back to 3,000 BC! Enter the ancient burial tombs, sit in the Hag's Chair and make a wish (just don't tell anyone or the spell won't work!), and stand on top of the hill to gaze down over glorious green sweeps of countryside.
No trip to the Boyne Valley would be complete without visiting the magnificent Trim Castle. The largest Norman castle in Ireland will be strikingly familiar to anyone who's seen the Hollywood blockbuster Braveheart. This amazingly well-preserved castle offers a unique window into a battle-worn chapter of Irish history like few other sites can.
St. Fechin's Church and the surrounding countryside will add a bit of magic to the journey, as the area is known for its mysterious enchanted landmarks which include a monastery in the bog, water that flows uphill, the tree that won’t burn, the water that won’t boil, the anchorite in a stone, and the stone/lintel raised by St Fechin's prayers.
A visit to the pinnacle of ancient Ireland, the stunning Hill of Tara, will bring the tour to a fittingly breathtaking close. The views across a quarter of Ireland's countryside from the top make the climb very worthwhile.
