Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg built Miramare Castle for himself in the mid-19th century. Old Max is long gone, but his paradisaical cliffside mansion lives on for you to explore.

Wander the halls of this opulent royal mansion, which retains its original furnishings. Then, bask among exotic trees in the park, many of which have roots in Maximilian's travels around the world. There's even a miniature 'castelletto', which Maximilian and his wife lived in while their fancy dream home was built!
