Feeling arty and crafty? So are the Taiwanese, and on this tour, a local expert will guide you through ancient temple restorations and pottery throwing in the country's crafty capital. It's artistic adventure meets creativity and history!

Sanxia is your first stop, where you'll learn about the history of Zushi Temple from your guide. This small town with its narrow streets south-west of Taipei went through a troublesome period at the end of WWII. Thanks to a meticulous restoration, its main attraction, Zushi Temple, can once again be admired. This intricate space was built in honor of Sung Dynasty loyalist, Cheng Chao-ying.

Check out the carved stone, bronze columns, and detail-rich statues. Feel the glare of the temple's stone lions with their fixed stares, and take in the scent of the old camphor wood carvings. Make sure to catch some snaps of the exquisite bronze bas-reliefs.

Next up, get your hands dirty in Yingge, a small town about 30 minutes south of Taipei. It also happens to be the pottery-making hub of northern Taiwan! Try your hand at pottery-throwing, and keep your handmade craft as a testament to your skill!

Check out hand-painted replicas of elegant Ming (1368-1644) and Ching (1644-1911) dynasty vases, produced in Yingkou. Consider picking yourself out a new earthenware tea set that will be the envy of your guests. Or, if the lions made an impression, why not get yourself a statue of them instead?
