Overview

Highlights

  • Stroll the Baroque-style Italian garden, where peacocks flaunt their feathers and ornate sculptures adorn the lawn
  • Enjoy the contents of the Palazzo Borromeo, including the Berthier Gallery, featuring over 130 paintings (including copies of Renaissance masters)
  • Enjoy views of Lake Maggiore and the mountains dotting the horizon from the island's amphitheater and terraces

Description

Strutting peacocks and plentiful plant life surround the Teatro Massimo, which is worth the price of admission alone. With statues dating back to the late 17th century decorating the outdoor amphitheater, and a unicorn (the symbol of the Borromeo family) sitting at the peak of the design, it's not to be missed.

In the island's palace, make sure to admire the six grottoes made as a retreat from the heat, Flemish tapestries, armor, and 130 pieces of Baroque art that decorate the interior.
