  • Hoensbroek

Hoensbroek Castle

One of the oldest (and biggest) castles in all of the Netherlands, Hoensbroek Castle is a stronghold of Dutch cultural history located in the pastoral province of Limburg. Over the centuries it's been home to knights, barons, royals, and poets, and was also used as a shelter for orphans after World War II. Given its age, the castle has also seen its fair share of architectural redesigning over the years, and is now a patchwork of historical styles, with an ancient watchtower its last remaining original feature. It is surrounded by a large dramatic moat, which may or may not contain the mythical Hoensbroek Monster.

There are also exhibitions of fascinating Roman artifacts, tools and trinkets, as well as a dazzling 3D light show depicting what the baths would have looked like in their day.
