Step back in time as you explore three historic little towns (yes, they're called The Three Cities, but they're each a dinky little harbour town!) on a vintage, wooden-bodied bus. With that Mediterranean sun in the sky, it makes for an idyllic adventure!
In the tumultuous and war-torn times, just after the Middle Ages, a band of wandering military knights were gifted the island of Malta by Charles V of Spain. They settled down and became known as the Knights of Malta. Continuing their campaigns against the Ottoman Empire and Barbary pirates, they quickly set about building a fortress to keep their enemies at bay.
That is the fortress of Cottonera and it comprises the Three Cities - Vittoriosa, Cospicua, and Senglea. The history goes way back, however, as the city of Cospicua has been inhabited since the Bronze Age!
Their sights are magnificent to behold, but the bus driver will also drop some Maltese knowledge on you with a detailed commentary on the area's history - including the two Great Sieges of 1565 and 1940-1942.
To cap off the somewhat whimsical nature of the tour, you'll ride on a wooden-bodied vintage bus from the 1920s.
