Scharfenstein Castle

Lichtenwalde Castle and Park near Chemnitz are considered the "Pearl of the Baroque". The historical origin of the remarkable Baroque ensemble goes back to the Middle Ages. It was not until the 18th century that the castle and park were built and laid out in their present form. In the adjacent 10-hectare baroque park, visitors stroll with a view of the Zschopau valley and enjoy time out in the countryside. Highlights in the castle include the treasury museum with historical salons, the castle chapel with Donati organ, as well as changing special exhibitions.

When the Saxon Elector Augustus built Augustusburg Castle from 1568 to 1572, the location was well chosen. Visible from afar, the hunting and pleasure palace rises above the Zschopau valley. Due to its imposing location, Augustusburg Castle is also known as the "Crown of the Ore Mountains". It is also considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in Central Europe.
