Meet at Via Cavour - a spear's throw from the Colosseum - and board a bus bound for Pompeii. Enjoy an air-conditioned coach ride (with free WiFi) to one of history's most fascinating sites. Once you arrive, you'll get skip-the-line access to this fascinating ancient city preserved by the lava from Mt. Vesuvius. After a day spent wandering through the eerily well-preserved remains, you'll board your bus again and be shuttled in air-conditioned comfort back to Rome.
In 79 AD Mount Vesuvius erupted, covering the ancient city of Pompeii in a layer of lapilli (molten fragments of stone). This force majeure froze the city, as if in amber. It's fascinating to be able to walk down ancient streets and imagine the busy city life that just suddenly stopped one day. Tinged with sadness, a visit here is nonetheless one of the best ways to bring history to life.
This full day excursion starts at 07:30 and lasts for about 12 hours. So prepare for a packed day of time travel. You start by making your way in the early morning to the Enjoy Rome tourist office (Via Cavour, 224). There you'll meet up with other travelers and board the coach for a comfortable, air-conditioned ride to the ancient site of Pompeii. Don't worry: there'll be plenty of stops for coffee and bathroom breaks along the way. And then, in the shadow of Mt. Vesuvius, you see it: the ancient city of Pompeii.
Imagine being able to go back in time and explore a city in the Roman empire; this is what this day trip offers. From the streets to the buildings to the everyday household objects - Pompeii is a glimpse into what life was really like almost 2,000 years ago. The preservation of Pompeii has also given the world a remarkable record of Roman paintings. Without Pompeii there would be virtually no record of the Roman art style.
The site is massive (64 hectares), and full of everything that made up a Roman city. Of course Pompeii has an amphitheater - which could seat around 20,000 people. Plus the villas of the rich, the more modest houses of the peasants - and even the brothels and bars at the edge of the city. If you're interested in ancient Roman religion, make sure to visit the Temple of Apollo. Set on a high podium with imposing steps, columns and a white marble altar it may inspire you to pay tribute to the sun, which will in all likelihood be beating down as you comb the city.
At the end of the day you'll be able to enjoy some much-deserved air conditioning as you head back to Rome. Take advantage of that WiFi and start posting your pics online as the bus takes you on a road that, like all others, leads back to Rome.
NOTE: This trip runs from 24 March to 3 November every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Don't forget to bring your sunscreen with you and maybe even a hat. You definitely don't want to get cooked in the Italian summer sun while enjoying your trip back in time.
The journey to Pompeii was really very nice, it was picturesque and also Claudia would chime in every now and then with some fun things to tell us and facts about the city and what we were seeing, including produce of the areas we were passing through. We stopped half way through the journey for a bathroom and refreshment break, it was a nice little cafe where you could also try out and buy the local produce, but there was no hard selling involved and they were extremely nice people!! Pompeii itself was amazing and we are so glad we were able to fit this in to our holiday, it is worth every penny of the visit. We didn't go for the guided tour as we wanted to go at our own pace and our own way around. However, Claudia was so good at giving out information about the site that we were able to plan exactly what we wanted to do and how we'd do it, we managed to fit everything we wanted in to the trip.
The "skip the line" really paid for itself as well, pre-booking any tickets for venues within Rome or day trips from Rome, is a must I would say!! We witnessed some pretty epic queues at most of the venues and were very glad we were not part of them.
The journey home was much the same as the journey there, stopping again at the same place for a bathroom break and refreshments. Claudia took the opportunity to speak to us all individually with our respective groups, and she was happy to answer any questions about our trip, even if it was a nice place to have a meal. It didn't have to relate to Pompeii, she genuinely just wanted you to make the most of her "beautiful city"!!
We travelled as a family of 4, our youngest being 9, it was a very comfortable coach with air con and free Wi-Fi which worked great. I have to say that, as much as we were looking forward to Pompeii, we were dreading the early start and coach journey!! However, nothing to fear at all. We found the meeting point very easily with the Tiqets App connecting to Google Maps, and it is literally at the bus stop described. It was such a comfy journey and we got to have a nap on our way out as well as on the way back!! The balance between letting everyone chill out and relax and talking you through the history and interesting facts about Rome and chatting to people in general, was really done well. Claudia seems to have this down to a fine art and you can tell she enjoys her job and is very proud of her city!!
I am so pleased that I found the Tiqets App, it is brilliant and so easy to use. They were also the best prices that we found for everything that is offered. It definitely made our trip to Rome easier!!
If you have children with you take ID as they want proof at the booking office of their age, think it's because they are free.
