Prisoners at the Mamertine Prison, also known as the Tullianum, were once lowered into the cell through a hole in the ceiling, but luckily you get to use the stairs.
Grab your video guide and explore what is essentially the basement of the church of San Pietro in Carcere, a prison that housed vanquished kings, wrong-doers, and even Saints Peter and Paul.
It's small, it's dark, it's cramped, but it's one of the most atmospheric parts of the Forum! You'll even see the bars that St. Peter was allegedly chained to, and the pool of water he used to baptize visitors.
When you've soaked up this special part of history, make your way into the architectural triumph that is the Colosseum. Explore this historic arena and the Roman Forum at your own pace.

- At the Mamertine Prison, receive your ticket with a specific timeslot for the Colosseum (about 1.5 hours later on the same day)

- After your prison visit, enter the Colosseum at the entrance next to the Mamertine Prison
- Please make sure to be at the Colosseum, 15 minutes before the timeslot that was given to you at the Mamertine Prison
- The chosen time refers to Marmertine Prison
- Valid ID is mandatory for any option selected, in case of incorrect personal data, access to the Colosseum will not be possible

The ticket system worked really well and obviously the sites themselves were incredible. My niece loved the whole thing and the app was very easy to use. The free audiobook was really helpful as well

Overall excellent experience once inside. Minor difficulty finding the ticket office at the prison (no obvious signs) and the very short queue didn’t move for ages.

Collecting the tickets was easy, the Mamertine Prison is quick to see, the entrance to Forum is right beside it. They gave us entry for Colloseum after 2 hours so it was pretty enough for the Forum.
