The city of Altun Ha was once a thriving Maya settlement, busy with trade and agriculture, and blessed with grand temples filled with exotic items. With this entrance ticket, you can take a self-guided look around the city. This includes a museum housing a replica carving of the Maya Sun God, Kinich Ahau, which the eagle-eyed among you will have spotted on Belizean banknotes.

Getting There:

By car: From Belize City, take the Northern Highway for about 30 minutes, just after passing the Sandhill Village. Take the Old Northern Highway on your left for 22.5 km (14 miles). On your left, take the Rockstone Pond Road towards the reserve for 3.2 km (2 miles).
