Welcome to the most stunning monastery in Bulgaria. Founded in the first half of the 10th century, the magnificent Rila Monastery is a symbol of the Bulgarian spirit, not to mention an eye-boggling piece of art at the same time. This ticket will get you in, plus a great guided tour to highlight all the essential elements.

When you're praying in front of the relics of Saint John inside the grandiose Rila Monastery, remember not to place your hands on them. The Holy Icons and the relics are honored with kisses only!

Also known as 'the Treasury of Bulgaria', this religious landmark began with a hermit living in a cave, who was later canonized by the Orthodox Church and became St. Ivan of Rila.

In sun or snow, the monastery's mountainous surroundings make it one of the most jaw-dropping places of worship in the world. Warning: you won't be able to resist taking a thousand photos. There's stunning architecture, carved verandas, eye-catching arches and colonnades, and 300-400 monastic cells to explore.

The Baptism of Jesus Christ, the Day of Judgement, and Adam and Eve are all covered in a series of colorful frescoes and paintings on and around the main church. Don't forget to look up – some of the best stuff is on the ceiling!

Don't miss the most precious item inside, the gold-plated iconostasis (a wall of icons and religious paintings). Its intricate wood-carvings took five whole years to be created by four diligent craftsmen.

Monastère magnifique ! Mais malheureusement acheter des tickets en avance ne sert à rien. J’ai payé pour rien. L’entrée au monastère est gratuite, seule le musée a l’intérieur est payant mais non...
