Tips for visiting PortAventura World

If you get to PortAventura World when it opens (which means an early start for your tribe!) you should beat the crowds to the big thrill-seeker rides. There's a lot you can do in a day but prepare for a potentially hot and exhausting one. Many people plan to spend at least 2 days making the most of their PortAventura tickets. Be sure to drink a lot of water as you enjoy the attractions and leave some of the best rides for lunchtime when things quieten down a little.

In short, yes! There are 20 restaurants inside PortAventura World, and each fits into its themed world. There's something to suit everyone's tastes, from American fare to Mexican, Chinese, Polynesian and Mediterranean.

If you're into meat, The Old Steak House will let you feast on dishes prepared in true American style to a backdrop of country music. For salads, pasta and pizza, check out Jeremias’ Food, or if it's just a snack you're after, grab a pick-me-up at one of the snack bars in the Far West world or the SésamoAventura area. Café Saula in the Mediterrània serves great cakes and sandwiches.

For a drink or two, there are some great wines to pair with products from the Mediterranean at the Vinosfera Tapas/Vins.

Your PortAventura tickets buy you fun in the almost-guaranteed sun, thanks to the Mediterranean climate. Think hot, dry summers and mild winters. If you don't mind a few degrees of extra heat, the best time to visit PortAventura is between June and August. The hottest month of the year tends to be July, when the park experiences an average daily maximum of 31°C and an average low of 21°C.

As for the best time of day to visit PortAventura World, that depends on what you want to do. The Dragon Khan and Shambhala are always the busiest rides. It's best to visit them first thing in the morning, or at lunchtime when others are eating (or digesting!) their lunch. Always check the information board at the entrance to see the current waiting times for each ride, or treat yourself to an Express wristband, which will get you into the action faster.

The park is strict about its "no food from the outside" rule. You might have your bags checked at the entrance, so if in doubt, leave all your food in the lockers before entering. You won't need it anyway, there's loads of choice inside.

Animals are not permitted inside PortAventura World, with the exception of guide dogs. There are boarding kennels if you need to leave your pets at the entrance.

It's possible to get a direct train from Barcelona Sants station to PortAventura, and the journey takes around 1 hour 15 minutes. You'll find at least 13 direct trains that run to the park throughout the day, with the first departure at roughly 6am. Get the family up early and you'll get plenty of time on this top day out from Barcelona. Don't forget to book your PortAventura tickets in advance.

One of the most amazing experiences I've had. The facilities are sophisticated and fun and the place is so beautifully decorated. It's fun to walk around and enjoy every corner. The queues are very long.

Good decision to buy tickets online and have a direct entry as the ticket office was crowded on the day we visited the park. It was a 5 min entry for us, every went smoothly,
