The world’s richest men in the 19th century may have loved a monopoly, but they did also give back to society. Andrew Carnegie gave up 90% of his enormous wealth to philanthropy, and the Port Huron Museums are part of that legacy. Originally constructed as one of Carnegie’s public libraries in 1902, the building changed its purpose in 1968 and became a museum.

There’s over 45,000 objects inside relating to the Blue Water area, some dating as far back as pre-history. Along with photos and artefacts, the museum is also home to the largest ship model collection in Michigan. There’s even an 1850s cabin you can visit to get an idea of rural life in St. Clair County during the 19th century.
