About: Ponte Sant'Angelo

Stepping onto Ponte Sant'Angelo, you'll find yourself immersed in the rich history and artistic splendor that Rome is renowned for. Originally known as the Pons Aelius, this ancient bridge was built by Emperor Hadrian in 134 AD to connect the city center to his mausoleum, now known as the Castel Sant'Angelo. As you walk across the bridge, you'll be captivated by its stunning architecture and the ten angelic statues that adorn it, designed by Bernini's disciples in the 17th century. Each angel holds a symbolic object, adding a touch of heavenly grace to the bridge. Ponte Sant'Angelo offers breathtaking views of the Tiber River and the magnificent Castel Sant'Angelo, making it a favorite spot for photographers and art lovers alike. The bridge's history and beauty make it a true gem in the heart of Rome. Whether you visit during the day or at night, when the bridge is illuminated, Ponte Sant'Angelo will transport you to a world of timeless elegance and artistic grandeur.
