Palace of Versailles
This luxurious 17th century French castle is a masterclass in excess. It has hundreds of acres of magnificently landscaped gardens, more than 700 rooms, a large collection of 18th century French art, an opera house and a 75 m-long hall of mirrors lined with statues and busts. There are no half-measures in its conception or execution (for example: it has more than 1,200 fireplaces!).
It's one of the most visited attractions – and castles – in France, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

was a very small line up, but recommend either getting there at 0900 when it opens,
or later in the afternoon when the crowds are thinner. We used our reserved tickets, and were able to walk in showing our online tickets quite easily. We picked up our audio system, but had a little difficulty utilizing it -- adding room numbers to access the narrative, as not all the rooms were easily identified. Our overall experience was excellent.
