Opéra Garnier

This 19th-century architectural masterpiece was built by Charles Garnier at the wishes of Emperor Napoleon III. It's located at the Place de l'Opera, a square in Paris's 9th arrondissement.

The insides of the Opéra Garnier boast some stunning Beaux-Arts architecture (the 30-meter high marble Grand Staircase for example). Its intricate interior inspired Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera (and thus Andrew Lloyd Webber's smash-hit musical), making this the perhaps the most famous opera house in the world.

Opéra Garnier: Self-Guided Visit
Interesting history about the building of The Palais Garnier, the era when it was build, artists, performances, etc. and, of course, the opulence of The Palais beyond imagination. There is a Picasso exhibition in the Palais at the moment revealing his influence and involvement in the history of The Palais.
Visit it in the morning when it opens to avoid crowds. Definitely worthwhile of seeing!!!

Opéra Garnier: Self-Guided Visit
Beautiful Opera house, worth seeing. The only negative was that it was very crowded... Especially the many school groups there at the time.
