The exhibition “Savinio. Enchantment and Myth” at the National Roman Museum of Palazzo Altemps will guide you through 90 works selected from Alberto Savinio's repertoire.

Alberto Savinio was an Italian artist and writer, known primarily as the younger brother of the painter Giorgio de Chirico.

Taken from public institutions and private collections, each piece represents one of the artist's other interests, ranging from music to literature, from painting to theater. See how he weaves humanity in a visionary and avant-garde language that borders on surreal.

Palazzo Altemps

4.9 / 5 (8 reviews)

Just between Piazza Navona and the Tiber River, Palazzo Altemps is a beautiful late-15th-century palazzo. Now one of the branches of the National Roman Museum, it was originally built for Girolamo Riario, a nephew of Pope Sixtus IV (who was a keen practitioner of nepotism).

The building changed hands a number of times throughout the centuries, before being gifted to the Italian State in 1982. It then underwent 15 years of restoration work, and was inaugurated as a museum in 1997.
