We booked our tickets for Osborne House on 7 March for a visit on 26 March. We arrived to check in at 14:50. The queue was not long but there was only one person at the admission desk. The elderly person in front of us was having a lot of difficulty sorting his admission out and took up about 5 minutes of the time of the person at the desk. This person at the desk clearly became concerned about the delay and the queue building up and visibly asked for support. Another person came in looking somewhat flustered and logged in. We were then able to present our entry ticket to that person. It was now 3 minutes after 15:00. With no apology and with what we would describe as a cold dispassionate voice this person told us the house was now closed and it was grounds only. We were there on time. The delay was not of our making. It was clear to us that that person was not in the slightest bit interested in our situation. A very bad experience indeed. Surely English Heritage employees should be a little bit nicer?

Kensington Palace

At Queen Victoria's behest, the State Rooms of Kensington Palace were opened to the public in 1899, on her 80th birthday. Since then it's been both a private residence for the royal family and a public museum. In fact, it's where Prince William lives with the Duchess of Cambridge and their three kids. Though you won't bump into them in the hallway, a visit here is still a fascinating window into the lives of royals past and present.
