Description

The National Museum of Art, Osaka is one of Japan's four national museums. Its striking bamboo-grove-inspired facade was designed by architect Arata Isozaki, and it's almost as impressive as the collection of masterpieces inside.

This subterranean art paradise is a must-visit for culture hunters in Osaka. Grab a ticket and marvel at visually arresting pieces from Japan's luminary artists, as well as works by Western icons.

The first artwork you'll encounter at the museum is the building's facade. A shiny giant of glass and twisted metal resembling a bamboo grove, this dazzling clash of nature and futurism is a Venus flytrap for selfies!

The spectacle continues as you proceed inside and down the escalators, as airy open gallery spaces defy their underground location. The collection rotates throughout the year, so each visit brings something new.

You'll see a stunning assortment of paintings, posters, prints, watercolors, sketches, photographs, sculptures, traditional crafts, and furniture designed to showcase the best of modern Japanese art, as well as complementary works by Western masters.
