Overview

Highlights

  • Enjoy Japan's signature Edo period art form in the modern surroundings of bustling Osaka
  • See original works by Ukiyo-e masters, including Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige
  • View iconic depictions of historical Japan including Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa and the piercing shades of Hiroshige's famous indigo blue works

Description

The name may be unfamiliar, but you've almost definitely seen Ukiyo-e art before: on restaurant walls, for sale at print stores, or on art-inspired clothing and other items.

The art form is visually symbolic of traditional Japanese culture, and Osaka's Ukiyo-e Museum features some of the most accomplished woodblock prints, a style which flourished between 1603 and 1868.

See beautiful pieces depicting everything from typical Japanese landscapes and nature, to sumo wrestling and courtesans!
